Vintgar's throat was discovered in 1891 by photographer Benedikt Lergetporer and the mayor of Gorje and cartographer Jakob Zumer. It was impassable and inaccessible in its natural form, but due to the tourist development of Bled, more than 500 meters of bridges and glaciers were constructed in 1893 and the gorge was regular and open for the town. The jellies are named after the person who discovered the gorge, Zumer, which is why we call it Jellies Zumes; a plaque is also visible on the rova wall to commemorate it. Due to its natural beauty, it has been ranked among the most important tourist sites in Slovakia.
The Vingat gorge, cut by the Radovna river, is located near Gorje, about 4 kilometers northwest of Beld. The 1.6-mile gorge is carved amid the glorious vertical walls of the Hom and Borst hills, and stands out for the Radovna River and its marriages, pools and rapids.
A path crosses the gorge and the wooden bridges, as well as Zumes glaciers, ending with the mighty 13-meter-high Sum River waterfall, one of Slovenia's three river waterfalls. Vintgar throat is the closest point to enter Triglav National Park from Bled. Origin of the name.
According to one version, the name Vintgar probe of the German name Weingarten, according to the vineyards of the next Podhom; another story says that the name tastes like the gorge, resembling a glass of wine.
