Itinerary description
My phone didn't record the ascent track for some reason. So this is really an out and back trip.
With a high clearance vehicle, you can drive off Overture road in the Windy Cove neighborhood and park not far from the large water tanks. From there, the trail is really very clear. I never had difficulty seeing the trail. If at any time it became unclear, there are cairns and even the occasional red arrow on rocks with spray paint.
At the top, the canyon is shaded and gladed. The spring appears to be year round. There are cottonwood trees and california grape vines everywhere. Lots of globe mallow and coreopsis (so spring wildflower season is a no-brainer). There is an abandoned hobo camp at the top. It's interesting, but unsightly, and detracts from the feeling of being in nature.
It's not a difficult trail. My 4.5 year old did it with me with no assistance and carrying a tiny pack.
I don't know about dogs, but the spring portion at the top looks to be in the San Jacinto wilderness where dogs aren't usually allowed. So please use good judgment.

The trail to the south, under the iron pipe, eventually goes up a small, climbable cliff. If you'd rather avoid that, go to the north and descend across the stream on a log a bit later.
