Itinerary description

Blackstairs Mountain, Carlow/Wexford, Ireland (Hewitt and Marilyn).
I’m keeping these summaries short as I’m on a two month tour of Ireland and there’s a lot of hills to hike and therefore lots of entries. All mapping used are view ranger digital OS 1:50 or 1:25. You will get the best results by uploading my wikiloc gpx giles into this mapping software.
Basically this route starts at Scullogue gap (same as yesterday) where there is a neat car park where the unclassified road meets the R702. There is a small stone table there. Only enough room for two cars. Walk back along the secondary road for just over a km and turn left so you come up to and cross over the R792. You follow the road opposite for about 599m and then turn left at a signpost for Blackstairs mountain. Here is a stone path between two hedges you follow for 500m to a gate. Once through the gate I took a left but the better route is right (my down route). You are on the hill now so just follow the well worn path uphill and south for 3kms. You will get to the summit cairn and then just turn round and come back. I can’t say nothing about the views as I didn’t have any on this very Irish day.
All in all a 10.3km day in 2hr59m with 600m of ascent.
