Itinerary description
One of the most known trail in Mauritius that leads to the highest Peak of the island (namely Black River Peak).
Reading other posts on the net about this trail, I have conviced myself that this trail is always muddy. That it has been for me: very very muddy and slippery! Even if I have been there in july, that isn’t a rainy period at all. So be sure you have good trekking shoes to wear. Also, you’d better taking with you another pair of shoes to use once getting back to the car in order not to dirt it.
The trail is quite simple for the most part, but it becomes more difficut during the last metres to the top, where the ground becomes more slippery and the path very ripid, in fact there are some ropes to cling to. That’s why I have named “moderate” this trail.
Once at the top, you will see both the Black River Gorge valley and the coast with Le Morne on the left overlooking the see.
I have completed my jurney visiting the near Chamarel waterfall and the 7 coloured Earths that are about 20 minutes distant by car.
