Itinerary description
Black Butte provides a sweeping panorama of the Cascades, including Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood, Mt. Jefferson, Three-Fingered Jack, Mt. Washington, the Three Sisters (although Middle Sister is hidden behind North Sister from this angle), and Broken Top. Starting from the upper trailhead would cut 6 miles and 2000 ft of elevation gain from the hike. The top 1.5 miles are largely shadeless and can get quite hot.
