Itinerary description
This is one of the best hikes from the east side of the Olympics, via Quilcene.
The elevation gain is 1200m/3.600ft, and shows the different types of forest.
In July the flowers in bloom are spectacular.
In this one we had a good and close view of a male mountain goat.

Nice!! You are reminded to be careful around these guys. A man was gored and killed over in the Olympics a couple years back by and aggressive goat. https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/big-quilcene-trail-no-833-to-marmot-pass-13944278/photo-8637506
Mountain goats (Oreamnos americanus) are large animals weighing 100– 300 pounds. Males (billies) are generally larger than females (nannies) and have longer horns and beards.Goats and deer crave salt, of any kind. Both human urine and human sweat contain a large amount of salt and, disgustingly, this mineral is manna to the horned ones. In high country, where there are goats or evidence of them, urinating on rocks prevents goats from destroying fragile vegetation or ripping up soil. So piddle or puddle on pebble!
