Big Daddy-Dead Vlei 2019-05-27

Depuis le camp de Sesriem, suivre la route D826 vers Sossusvlei. Après 60km environ, se garer à la fin de la route goudronnée au parking de Hidden Vlei si on ne dispose pas de 4x4 ou si on n'est pas à l'aise en conduite sur piste sableuse. Emprunter alors les navettes gratuites jusqu'au parking de Dead Vlei. Sinon, poursuivre jusqu'à celui-ci par les 4km de piste sableuse.

From Sesriem Camp, follow the road D826 to Sossusvlei. After about 60km, park at the end of the tarred road at the Hidden Vlei car park if you do not have a 4x4 or if you are not comfortable driving on a sandy track. Then take the free shuttles to the parking lot of Dead Vlei. Otherwise, continue to this one by the 4km sandy track.

Aucune difficulté. Avec la foule, itinéraire évident. Mais un tas de sable de 300m de haut, ça chauffe les cuisses, à la montée comme à la descente !

Depuis le parking, prendre l'itinéraire qui passe par le grand replat sur la gauche de la crête sableuse.
Au fond du replat, obliquer sur la droite pour gravir la crête de la dune en son point le plus bas.
Puis suivre sans difficulté la crête jusqu'au sommet de la dune.
Descendre ensuite "tout schuss" dans la cuvette de Dead Vlei et se promener tranquillement dans ce décor somptueux au milieu du sable rouge et des troncs d'acacias noirs.
Regagner ainsi progressivement le parking vers le nord.

From the car park, take the route that goes through the large flat on the left of the sandy ridge.
At the end of the flat, turn to the right to the ridge of the dune at its lowest point.
Then follow the ridge without difficulty to the top of the dune.
Then descend "all schuss" in the bowl of Dead Vlei and walk quietly in this magnificent scenery in the middle of red sand and trunks of black acacias.
Gradually return to the car park toward the north.
