Itinerary description
Waypoints
Starting point from kathewadi village via shidhi ghat route.
This is the way for people choosing to do the trek via shidi ghat walkway which has it's own challenges like ladder crossing, boulder patches, thick forests and steep ascents. People can also choose easy alternative ganesh ghat route which would be the reverse of this trail record.
Water well.
Two big water filled wells which are used by the villagers. From there follow the trail into the forest.
Campsite at the base of Bhimashankar
This is a good flat meadow where someone can choose to pitch there tent. Occasional Water source is just 60 mtrs away from this place but the water won't be drinking-safe.
Occasional Stream.
You might find a stream here only if it's raining or the peak monsoon period. Not surely drinking-safe.
River crossing
Occasional stream but rains might make this flooded and get you experience a river crossing adventure.
Waterfall Area
Slippery area around the waterfall. Stick to the left little away from the stream towards the trail.
Rocky patch
A 50 metres patch just before the ladder which can get real slippery during the monsoons. Basic rock climbing might help get through safely.
Ladder section
There are two ladders which are little shaky so one at a time would be a good choice. This route is strictly not for the light hearted people. Be careful through.
Boulder part
This is a Rocky boulder part which is exposed directly to the valley. Surface might get very slippery during monsoons. Helping each other with a rope might be a safety plus.
Padarwadi village
This a small village where local Adivasis tribal people belong too. In case of emergency you can try seeking help out there.
Dhaba point
Several huts to serve paid hot snacks and also stay options if you're willing to stay here. Also you're almost done here with the half ascent towards Bhimashankar. And this is the point where both the ghats route intersect (Ganesh ghat & shidi ghat) If you ask around you'll find the way to pawarbaba ashram on the left.
Mungi ghat
The mungi ghat section starts from this point. This is named of several reasons, this is red soiled area and home to several species of ants, the trail gets curvy and steeper from here.
Padargad fort view
From here you can spot the padargad fort at it's best. This natural fort structure resembles as Nandi facing the shivling. This is the great highlight of the Trek. Haven't posted the picture in as it should be a surprise for you.
Jungle region
The valley view is Done and you enter the thick forest of Bhimashankar wildlife from here. Now onwards entire trail will be gradually ascending and very pleasing through the jungle. Probability of spotting langurs around.
Bhimashankar temple
This is the highest point of the trek. This is a temple site of lord Shiva's of the 12 jyotirlinga. This place is road accessible from the other side. You can choose to trek back to the village or ride the other way.
Way down to khandas
Choose the same way back towards padarwadi also this place is always filled with garbage so try taking some waste back with you which can be disposed at the nearest city.
Follow yellow ribbons
Don't get lost out of the trail. Follow the yellow ribbons and the trail.
Way Towards Ganesh Ghat
Follow the way left to Ganesh Ghat which would be little longer but much more safer and scenic way down.
Tree fall
This area is covered with a tree find a slight left to escape safely right on the trail.
Ganesh temple
This is the ancient ganesh temple built in Maratha Empire period. This is a good place to relax around with the shade from sun or rain.
Two route meeting point
This is the point where you end or start your trek. Looking at the picture left takes you towards shidi ghat and right towards Ganesh Ghat.
