Itinerary description

Kalkan is a resort right on the coast, but the mountains rise steeply behind it. This walk takes you over the nearest ridge to Bezirgan, a village on a fertile plain surrounded by hills. Click on the waypoints for photos and more information.

Bezirgan: the new mosque

There are two mosques in Bezirgan. This one is at the southern end of the village. The road to the left leads directly to the storehouses and the path leading back to the Kalkan-Sarıbelen road at the Ottoman cistern. The road to the right leads into the village and eventually to the meydan, which is near the other mosque.

Start of upper Bezirgan path. The ascent is steep and is now mostly on the course of a new path formed by the laying of a water pipe. The views on the ascent are spectacular.

This cistern is at the crest of a ridge. From here the path leads through a cultivated bowl in the hills. There is a nomad encampment (inhabited in May 2009). The climb to the summit ridge overlooking Bezirgan is quite gentle.
