Itinerary description
This is an easy hiking trail, perhaps moderate to some, but there are few inclines of note. The trail follows paths, some of which have seen occasional use by vehicles, but certainly not on a daily basis. One section was a little overgrown but it was not difficut to trample throught he long grasses. After rains there could be some muddy stretches, although there are normally tracks skirting around and above the mud.
We encountered a herdsman with his cows, a horseman riding for fun with his dog, and a solitary walker. For all but the very start and the last kilometre it is wonderfully quiet. There are lots of wild flowers, a few birds, although there would be more in the morning or evening, and we saw one very large furry mammal slip away unidentified!
Parts of this trail almost certainly follow ancient Tarascan routes from Patzcuaro to the lake settlements. Look our of interesting shapes in the ground and very old stone walls. I will add another walk through this area soon, which follows the trail from Patzcuaro central.
I would allow ninety minutes or perhaps even two hours if you want to spend time looking at points of interest.
