Itinerary description
Belasitsa кестените. The route of the chestnut.
From Belasitsa village, 10km from the town of Petrich, you start a marked track beginning where the beautiful and famous church of the village is.
The track is short, most of it very easy. Exception is the ascending to the lake, where a narrow dirty road should be taken. After it you follow the track and you visit the small mountain lake, which is the only natural lake in Belasitsa mountain. If you visit it in winter, usually it's frozen.
Nearby the lake there is a chill area for having a lunch.
Also, the official name of the track is "the route of the chestnut", because it's one of the few places in Bulgaria where there are chestnut forest (if you go in September/October, don't forget to bring a big bag to collect).
