Base 20. Path of resistance. Cemetery of the partisans. Jelendol Partisans Hospital. Memorial path of the resistance of the partisans.
Beautiful trail suitable for everyone that combines an open-air "museum" with stunning forests.
Baza 20 is a group of wooden buildings, the former headquarters of the partisans that we find in large forests near Dolenjske Toplice (10 to 15 minutes by car from the spa). There is a large parking lot to leave the car and next to the forester's hut, a very friendly gentleman who explained a little to us, even though he doesn't speak much English, only Slovenian and German. Next to it comes the track that will take us to the camp. You have to walk about 20 minutes into the forest to get to the hidden place where the houses are. There is no special museum with many artifacts, only the wooden huts remain with the remains of the past. Not all are from the period. There are only 2 left (16 and 22), which are the ones with the information panels. Inside, a path of white stones will take us along the route. It is very interesting to see the place if you are interested in history. We continue walking to follow the path of resistance and find the red and white dots that show us the way and that we will follow in the middle of the impressive forests until a crossroads with a post indicating where we will go and we will return to the cemetery of the partisans following trails red ones We find a small fence surrounding the graves that we assume are in the middle. Once we are back on the path we will continue and immediately find the first cabins of the partisan hospital. This hospital operated clandestinely during the Second World War. The Cabins are a bit damaged and not very well looked after but seeing them we can imagine the harshness of life at that time. The operating theatre, the latrines, the recovery room, etc.
And it's time to go back the same way. We, to enjoy the forests a little more, decide to go back along the track that does not make it difficult for us to return.
I hope you enjoy it a lot and if you do, leave a comment to tell me if you liked it or if things need to be changed
Health and legs!!
