Itinerary description
A hike in Algonquin Park through the forest with multiple stream crossings, a nice lookout, as well as a marsh boardwalk and a view of Bat Lake. The trail is well marked with blue disks and while easy to follow there were several sections that were very muddy and not easy to travel through.
Some beautiful old growth trees were the highlight of the hike for me with stands of conifers, maples, hemlock and spruce. Not much wildlife was spotted. At the start of the trail there is a parking lot and an information board with a hiking booklet with in depth information about the ecology of the area. Marked signed posts correspond to the map and the commentary in the booklet which provides a great learning experience.
