Itinerary description

One day trip from Baška Voda through the outskirts of Biokovo Nature Park. The trail of "Topići-Sveti Nikola" starts at the crossing few hundred meters above the village of Topići, but apart from occasional cairns (little piles of stones) there´s no marking at all. So you have to pay your full attention to spotting the stone piles to keep on track. And even so, you´ll probably go astray as many times as I did, just to stumble upon the trail again moments later. In general you need to keep on the left side of the ravine by the pine woods beneath the rocky ridge. The Wikiloc offline map is quite accurate in depicting the trail course but vast stretches of the path has been actually obliterated by vegetation, rocks and gravel. If you hike the trail in the opposite direction, the trail happens to be well marked (red and white "targets") as far as the pine forest beneath Pakline, but upon there the marking suddenly disappears and you´re on your own again.

Even though you´ll not reach any summit along the way (unless you divert at Sokolove Staje and decide to crawl a long and unmarked ridge trail to Bukovac) the views are by no means less breathtaking and the old pine forest on the slopes beneath Pakline is really enchanting.

There is a church of St. Nikola above the valley (the trail to the summit of Bukovac should start there).

Napoleon´s road

The road across Dalmatia, from Obrovac to Boka Kotorska was built during a very short period of French rule over the region (1808-1813). Today this road is known as “Napoleon's Road" or the "French Road". This part of the road was supposed to connect the littoral zone of Makarska with another one passing the Biokovo hinterland. Due to the withdrawal of the French administration, this part of the road remained unfinished. Trivia: It seems to me, that some scenes of "Game of Thrones" have been shot on this road.
