TOUR DESCRIPTION

Starting point is the Hosteria & Spa Isla de Baños. First turn left into "Calle Montalvo". After the hospital turn left again into "Calle Mera" and then right into the small street "Calle Dominicanos". We pass the cemetery. At the end of the street, a clearly visible trail leads up the stairs to the viewpoint "La Virgen". On the left side you have a beautiful view of Baños and on the right side you have a view into the valley and the volcano Tungurahua (only in good weather). Above the "La Virgen" you will find a trail fork where you continue steeply to the right. After a few meters you pass an abandoned hut. Immediately after that you leave a fork to the left unnoticed. The path continues uphill through lush vegetation. There are always beautiful new views of the city. Turn left at the next fork (do not go straight on!). From here the path continues uphill in serpentines. At about 2500 m we reach a fork to the left to the "Mirador de la Ciudad". The lookout point is a small hill, which is marked with a stone. Back on the way, after a few meters you reach a field path, which you follow to the right towards "Mirador del Volcán" or "Casa del Arból". At the fork to the left to the greenhouses we continue straight on. The field path becomes narrower again and continues uphill through a small wood. On the right hand side there is a beautiful viewpoint of the volcano. A little later we meet the field path again and then an asphalt road. We turn right and follow it for about 200 meters until we reach the "Casa de Arból" (Entrance fee: 1 USD). This is with 2660 m the highest point of the hike. Here one of the most famous swings in the world swings over a canyon of the volcano Tungurahua. The beautifully maintained facility also offers food and drinks, which invites you to stay on the meadows. For the descent you go back to the turnoff to "La Virgen", but now follow the field path down to the village of Runtun and the swing "Fantasias de Volar". If you want, you can make a short detour to the left to the "Columpio" or continue directly to the Hostería Las Orquídeas Runtun, where you can have lunch in the restaurant. After the Hostería we do not follow the field path to the right, but continue straight on until we come to a path that we take downhill on the right. The path leads past many greenhouses to the Hotel Luna Volcán - the turnoffs to the right are ignored. At the hotel we turn right to the Café del Cielo, where we can have a cup of coffee. After a few hundred meters you will find another path which you follow down to the left to Baños. You will pass two more views of Baños. The path ends in the "Calle Maldonado" - from there it is only a stone's throw to the starting point of the hike.

DESCRIPCIÓN DEL TOUR

El punto de partida es la Hostería y Spa Isla de Baños. Primero gire a la izquierda en la calle Montalvo. Después del hospital giras a la izquierda en la calle Mera y luego a la derecha en la calle Dominicanos. Pasarás por el cementerio. Al final de la calle un camino claramente visible lleva por las escaleras al mirador "La Virgen". En el lado izquierdo tienes una maravillosa vista de Baños y en el lado derecho puedes ver el valle y el volcán Tungurahua (sólo con buen tiempo). Por encima de "La Virgen" encontrará una bifurcación en el camino, donde continuará con una fuerte pendiente hacia la derecha. Después de unos metros pasas una cabaña abandonada. Inmediatamente después de eso dejas una bifurcación a la izquierda sin que se note. El sendero continúa cuesta arriba a través de la exuberante vegetación. Siempre hay nuevas y hermosas vistas de la ciudad. Gire a la izquierda en la siguiente bifurcación (no siga recto!). Desde aquí el camino continúa cuesta arriba en serpentinas. A unos 2500 m llegamos a una bifurcación a la izquierda del "Mirador de la Ciudad". El mirador es una pequeña colina, que está marcada con una piedra. En el camino de regreso, después de unos pocos metros se llega a un camino de campo, que se sigue a la derecha hacia el "Mirador del Volcán" o "Casa del Arból". En la bifurcación a la izquierda para los invernaderos, continúe recto. El camino de campo se estrecha de nuevo y continúa cuesta arriba a través de un pequeño bosque. A la derecha hay un hermoso mirador del volcán. Poco después nos encontramos de nuevo con el camino de campo y luego con un carretera asfaltado. Giramos a la derecha y lo seguimos unos 200 metros hasta llegar a la "Casa de Arból" (entrada: 1 USD). Con 2660 m este es el punto más alto de la caminata. Aquí uno de los columpios más famosos del mundo se balancea sobre un cañón del volcán Tungurahua. La instalación, muy bien mantenida, ofrece además una pequeña oferta de comida y bebidas, que invita a quedarse en las praderas. Para la bajada se vuelve al desvío a "La Virgen", pero ahora se sigue el camino de campo hasta el pueblo de Runtun y el columpio "Fantasías de Volar". Los que quieran pueden hacer aquí un corto viaje lateral a la izquierda hacia el "columpio" o seguir derecho hasta la Hostería Las Orquídeas Runtun, donde se puede almorzar en el restaurante. Pero después de la Hostería no seguimos el camino de campo de la derecha, sino que seguimos recto hasta que nos encontramos con un sendero que tomamos a la derecha cuesta abajo. El sendero pasa por muchos invernaderos hasta el Hotel Luna Volcán - los giros a la derecha son ignorados. En el hotel giramos a la derecha y caminamos hasta el Café del Cielo, donde podemos tomar una taza de café. Después de unos cientos de metros, se llega a otro camino que se sigue a la izquierda hasta Baños. De este modo, se pasan dos vistas más a Baños. El camino termina en la "Calle Maldonado" - desde allí es sólo un tiro de piedra hasta el punto de partida de la caminata.

TOURENBESCHREIBUNG

Ausgangspunkt ist die Hosteria & Spa Isla de Baños. Zuerst geht es nach links in die "Calle Montalvo". Nach dem Krankenhaus biegt man wieder links in die "Calle Mera" und dann rechts in die Seitenstraße "Calle Dominicanos". Es geht am Friedhof vorbei. Am Ende der Straße führt ein gut sichtbarer Weg die Treppen hinauf bis zum Aussichtspunkt "La Virgen". Auf der linken Seite hat man einen herrlichen Blick auf Baños und auf der rechten Seite ins Tal und auf den Vulkan Tungurahua (nur bei gutem Wetter). Oberhalb der "La Virgen" trifft man auf eine Weggabelung, wo es steil nach rechts weiter geht. Nach ein paar Meter passiert man eine verlassene Hütte. Gleich danach lässt man eine Abzweigung nach links unbeachtet. Der Pfad führt weiterhin bergaufwärts durch üppige Vegetation. Es eröffnen sich immer wieder schöne neue Blicke auf die Stadt. An der nächsten Weggabelung nach links wenden (nicht geradeaus weitergehen!). Von hier führt der Weg in Serpentinen weiter bergauf. Auf knapp 2500 m erreichen wir eine Abzweigung nach links zum "Mirador de la Ciudad". Der Aussichtspunkt ist ein kleiner Hügel, der mit einem Stein markiert ist. Wieder auf dem Weg zurück erreicht man nach wenigen Meter einen Feldweg, den man nach rechts weiter in Richtung "Mirador del Volcán" oder "Casa del Arból" folgt. Bei der Abzweigung nach links zu den Gewächshäusern gehen wir weiter geradeaus. Der Feldweg wird jetzt wieder schmaler und es geht weiter durch ein Wäldchen bergaufwärts. Rechter Hand befindet sich ein schöner Aussichtspunkt auf den Vulkan. Ein wenig später trifft man wieder auf den Feldweg und dann auf eine asphaltierte Straße, die wir rechts einbiegen und ca. 200 Meter bis zur "Casa de Arból" folgen.(Eintrittsgeld: 1 USD). Dies ist mit 2660 m der höchste Punkt der Wanderung. Hier schwingt eine der bekanntesten Schaukeln der Welt über eine Schlucht des Vulkans Tungurahua. Die schön gepflegte Anlage bietet zusätzlich ein kleines Verpflegungsangebot, das zum Verweilen auf den Wiesen einlädt. Für den Abstieg geht man wieder zurück bis zur Abzweigung nach "La Virgen", folgen nun aber den Feldweg bis hinunter in den Ort Runtun und der Schaukel "Fantasias de Volar". Wer möchte, kann hier noch einen kurzen Abstecher nach links zur "Columpio" machen oder direkt weiter gehen bis zur Hostería Las Orquídeas Runtun, wo man im Restaurant Mittagessen kann. Nach der Hosteria folgen wir den Feldweg allerdings nicht nach rechts, sondern gehen gerade aus weiter bis wir auf einen Pfad stoßen, den wir rechts bergabwärts einschlagen. Der Pfad führt vorbei an vielen Gewächshäusern bis zum Hotel Luna Volcán - die Abzweigungen nach rechts werden ignoriert. Am Hotel geht es nach rechts bis zum Café del Cielo, wo man eine Tasse Kaffee trinken kann. Nach ein paar Hundert Meter stoßt man auf einen anderen Weg, den man nach links unten nach Baños folgt. Dabei passiert man zwei weitere Ausblicke auf Baños. Der Pfad endet in der "Calle Maldonado" - von dort aus ist es nur noch ein Katzensprung zum Ausgangspunkt der Wanderung.
