Itinerary description

This is a great hike at any time of year. It provides a number of view points where you can look down on the north and south arms of beautiful Lake Cowichan. Nearing its termination you can look down the entire length of the Cowichan Valley and on a clear day, off in the distance, you can see the snow tipped peaks of the Pacific Coast Range on the mainland .

Although this trail heads towards the summit of Bald Mountain it does not quite reach the top, stopping at the Saddle, a U-shaped notch below the summit. This trail starts along the Wetland Loop trail, takes the Summit Connector to the Lower Plateau for a short walk to the Summit trail.

There is another version of this trail which takes you beyond The Saddle. Look for "Bald Mountain Upper Plateau (Lake Cowichan) - Retreads" on Wikiloc.

The timber in this area has been havested in the past and the trees are in a stage of regrowth. You will find evidence of this activity at waypoints 25 and 26 where steel cable used in logging operations emerges from the land.

The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an AVA rating of 4B.

Looking for a hike in the Cowichan Valley? Or, looking for hiking companions? Google "Retreads Hiking Club CVRD".
