Itinerary description
Hike on the Longwood forest following the Te Araroa trail north to south from the end of Merivale road to the summit of Bald Hill.
We leave the car at the gates of the Forestry. There was a signpost stating you could walk in but stay on the 4wd road while in the forestry section.
Half of the track, about 5 Km, is inside the forestry road and the other half is inside the Longwood forest following the DOC (Department Of Conservation) track.
This second part is inside NZ native bush and we found a few sections with quite a bit of mud.
For the last kilometre or so you get out of the bush and have a clear view of the antennas at the summit. Once at the summit there are great views where you can see all the way to Bluff.
We use the same track to come back to the car.
