Itinerary description

To go down to the canyon we start from the small town of Nivicë. We left the car in the only parking lot we found in the town, and after passing a large esplanade with stone buildings and some arches, we found some indications to go down. Of course, the descent is along very steep paths and not very comfortable to walk, so we strongly recommend being well equipped, going down in boots or good mountain shoes, contrary to what we did, who were going with the intention of going through the canyon with booties. Also, if you come down well equipped, you can do some more hiking through the canyon, which has some paths between its slopes, which really promise to be very cool.
Further ahead there is a large waterfall that flows into a beautiful pool, but of course, without water it is not pretty to see.
We went down to find that the river did not have water, nor did we have the appropriate equipment to continue the route through the canyon to at least enjoy it that way, so everything was bad. So as we found ourselves in that situation we turned around, things happen, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose... The water was completely stagnant, the waterfalls without water... A shame since the place is a pass.
From Gjirokaster you can hire the canyoning activity to enjoy the canyon from within, with a guide, equipment... of course, it is not an activity for everyone!!!
