Itinerary description
This trail leads to Baghaberd fortress ( Բաղաբերդ )․
Above the point where the rivers Voghdji and Geghi merge, on a rocky hill the ruins of Baghaberd are situated. In the 12th century this construction was the capital of the Syunik kingdom, but was destroyed in the 1170's by the tribes of Turks-Seljuks.
--- The trail is really easy and the scenery from the top is worth seeing!
--- Though there is a sign leading there, but the trail is not blazed, so having GPS is better.
--- The main route is a gravel geep road, but the last part which leads to the fortress is a tiny path.
--- Be careful with the fort area in the summer period and beginning part of autumn, as you can meet snakes there.
--- This hike is an all-season one, you can hike there in summer and in winter as well.
--- We hiked Baghaberd in early July, till September it's green, after November it may become snowy and greenery will come back in mid April.
