Itinerary description
Took my wife and 2 dogs (Husky and a Lab) on this trail today. It is located on the eastern side of Badin Lake in the Uwharrie Forest. The trail is roughly 5.6 miles long and has moderate climbs and decents. Throw in some fallen trees and a couple of tiny streams and it makes this trail really fun, but not very challenging. I turned my GPS on a little late though, and we actually started the trail from the parking lot. The trail is very well maintained and easy to follow with white paint marking the trees throughout the entire route. The trail is narrow though, only allowing single-file walkng for most of the distance. A very large portion of the trail is RIGHT along the water's edge and offers awesome views of the lake. I was suprised by how vacant the trail was on a beautiful warm Sunday afternoon, but it is before Memorial Day, so maybe it's just not the "busy season". For dog owners, EVERYONE seemed friendly and inviting. Although you are supposed to have your dog leashed, no one really seemed to care. Everyone we met had their dog off the leash, and everyone was friendly and well behaved. There are plenty of places for you and your dog to take a swim (leashed of course!), which is something I have been missing with my dogs for a long time.
