Itinerary description
This is a route to Backus Peak from CA178. It's approximately 7 miles RT, with 3,000' elevation gain. Watch as you travel uphill (west) for a blue Call Box sign on the left - 178-858 - as the access road is immediately across the road from it. Drive 100 yards to the wilderness boundary, park, and hike up the old road for about a mile, turning right from this old road towards the ridge.
