Itinerary description
Ayrikar / Ayriqar ( Այրիքար) is a mountain near Dilijan city, in Tavush province.
It has a height of 2510 m.
Whenever you travel in Dilijan it’s impossible not to notice this peak from the city, sometimes we call it Simba’s peak, as the top of the mountain is similar to the “Pride Rock” from “The Lion King” animated movie.
The mountain is famous for its fantastic view from the summit.
The name Ayrikar is literally translated from Armenian into English as ''Widow stone''.
~~~ What you should know about this trail?~~~
--- You start the hike from Dilijan outskirts and walk back to the same spot.
--- On your way you may meet some shepherd dogs, be careful that part, leave their territory quickly, but don't run, when you are close to them, they bark and behave aggressively but rarely attack if you don't run and pass their territory quickly.
--- This part is always hot, so have at least 2 liters of water with you.
--- Only the first part of the trail (about 4 km) you hike through the forest.
--- The hardest and the longest part of the trail is the ascending part, because it's quite steep.
--- Season for Ayriqar starts from April till November (depends on snow condition), the best months are May, June, July.
--- The part of the trail (the forest segment) is considered to be marked but some of them may be vanished, accordingly GPS is a must here.
Very good trail. Great views, easy to follow (it's a car track all the way up. Not a difficult trail as in no very steep climbing, no big rocks, etc. Just a long way up. Any healthy grown-up will walk it fine. Better to walk when there isn't much sun, or you will get sunburnt. Almost at the end of the trail you pass some half-abandoned farmer buildings, and there will be a drink water pipe coming from the ground, with the water always running. So you can drink enough there and refill your bottles. All the dogs we met on the way have been incredibly awesome
