Itinerary description
AVOCA RED KITE Walk, (English and Spanish).
Another of the walks we did when on a hiking visit to the Woodenbridge Hotel. We started in Avoca, walking up from the Church (where there is ample car parking), taking the right by the fork at the old School, where soon you will see the entrance to the Kilmagig Forest Recreation Area. This is the start of the route. The Red Kite walk takes us through a beautiful wood from where you can see the village of Avoca. It is well signposted with red way marking signs. If you are lucky you will see one or more of the now 30 breeding pairs of Red Kite eagles originally introduced to the wood in 2009. We saw one, and it is a beautiful site. The walk is easy, in beautiful surroundings, and suitable for all walkers, even children. The sound of the birdsong and the streams running along the walk was enchanting. A truly lovely walk.

I followed the cemetary trail - Kilmagg Lower to Ballinvally, I walked up as far as the cemetary gate then took the trail to Ballinvally, there is a nice picnic area after about 2.5 km, it was a nice walk, it took about 1 hour 15 mins, the trail is one way and exits out onto a country road, it takes about an hour to walk back to Avoca from there or you can double back along the trail.
A nice variation, thanks for adding. I hope to do the walk again soon so will check this out!
