I've walked (almost) that trail several times. At the very start instead of going to the right and down to the cave (Gruta) go instead up to the old mill (Milho) and standing in the middle looking at the Mill, head off to the left and there's a trail that takes you around to join the trail that has been posted. This area has been populated since pre-history, likely 2000 - 3000 years ago.
