Itinerary description
One of the most, if not the most, beautiful gorges in Cyprus. Not long walk inside the gorge but somewhat demanding due to permanent crossing of the river and big boulders which one needs to climb. The trail inside the gorge changes a bit from year to year due to variations of the stream flow.
There is a parking pretty close to the start, the road to is quite rough and bumpy but even small cars can make it.
The trail may be somewhat crowded on weekends in the right season.
Please mind that mobile networks do not work inside and GPS behaves rather strange.
The circular trail consists of official part which is gorge itself and non-official - the way back.
SEASON: better avoid rainy season as there maybe too much water inside the gorge. Mid spring is really beautiful. The return trail is mostly exposed to the sun.
TERRAIN: a lot of wet crossings inside the gorge as well as a lot of climbing on boulders and rocks, so be prepared shoewise at least. Stones and rocks are quite slippery even in proper shoes. The return trail is a narrow rocky and clay path, the final part is dusty car road.
SIGNS: plenty of plant signs and some resting places for the official part, nothing for non- official.
KIDS: kids of all ages can be taken inside the gorge if parents are prepared to carry them over the crossings and boulders. The whole circular trail is better to go with kids from 7-8 yo.
This trail can be combined with the adjusted one - Mastikorido Nature Trail (circular) - https://www.wikiloc.com/walking-trails/matsikorido-nature-trail-pano-arodes-98926122. The whole route will be around 20 kms then.
