Route through the city of Auckland from the University of Auckland to Symonds Street to the Tank Farm Viewpoint (at the northern end of the Wynyard Quarter), going through the Symonds Street NZ Wars Memorial, the St Paul's Church, the Auckland Domain, the Duckpond, the Auckland Domain Wintergardens, the Auckland War Memorial Museum, the monument dedicated to Robert Burns, the Waipapa Marae, the City Campus of the University of Auckland, the Auckland High Court, the Old Government House, the ClockTower, the Maclaurin Chapel, the Albert Park, the monument dedicated to Sir George Gray, the Auckland Art Gallery (Toi or Tāmaki), the Central City Library, the Aotea Square, the Aotea Center, Auckland Town Hall, the monument dedicated to Sir Dove-Myer Robinson, the monument dedicated to Lord Auckland, St Matthew-in-the-City, Sky Tower, Auckland District Court, St Patrick's Cathedral, Queen Street , the Britomart Transport Center, the Auckland Ferry Terminal, the Quay Street, the Harbor Viaduct, the Wynyard Crossing ( Te Wero Bridge), and the Dredge Driving Wheels, making the one-way journey.
The route begins at the University of Auckland's premises at Symonds Street, just in the small square where the monument to the victims of the New Zealand Wars (the Symonds Street NZ Wars memorial) is located, a century conflict Nineteenth century that faced the New Zealand government (then occupied by the British colonizers) with the Māori for disputes over land ownership. In fact, there are few monuments or reminders of these wars around New Zealand with the clear intention of not shaking the past, which contrasts with the large number of monuments dedicated to the victims of the First and Second World War. Going through the Symonds Street, the first thing that surprises is the beauty of the St Paul's Church, which also contrasts with the contiguous buildings. Turn right onto the Wellesley Street East and around the church, cross the street through the Grafton Gully cycleway (one lower step) to turn right again and past Grafton Road, which leads directly to the entrance to the 'Auckland Domain, the park that covers the entire crater of the Pukekawa volcano explosion and most of the volcanic material around it. The path that borders the park offers several sculptures with very different styles. After passing alongside a small, evocative duck pond (The Duckpond), you reach the Auckland Domain Wintergardens, a place of historical importance that consists, among others, of two greenhouses: the Temperate House, which is not heated, and the Tropical House, heated to an average of 28ºC, and where water lilies could be observed, apart from other strange plants in both areas. With the captivating image of the museum on the hill, closer, it has progressed to the Auckland War Memorial Museum (Tāmaki Paenga Hira), one of the most important museums in New Zealand that remembers its history, including natural and military history. Very well in front of the museum you can see the cenotaph, a tomb dedicated to the victims of the wars, but without its remains. Before leaving the park on the far north, you can still see the monument in memory of Robert Burns, considered the national poet of Scotland, as well as the immense tree that is in the center of the park (of the species Ficus macrophylla), whose enormous roots can be confused with the same branches. Once out of the Auckland Domain, and after crossing Stanley Street following the Alten Road, you will reach Waipapa Marae, the centerpiece of Maori life on the campus of the University of Auckland. Shortly thereafter, in fact, a poster formally indicates the entrance to the City Campus of the University of Auckland, just in front of the Auckland High Court. Taking the path to the inside of the campus, the Old Government House, a historic building of the University of Auckland (the first of its kind in New Zealand), which had been the residence of the Governor of New Zealand and had played a very important role until the middle of the 19th century, when Auckland ceased to be the capital and this relevance was conferred on the city of Wellington. Nearby, you can also see The ClockTower, a building of the same university with high architectural value, and the Maclaurin Chapel, a chapel for students and members of the academic community. Crossing Princess Street, often frequented by students who go up and down, enter Albert Park, a public park in the center of the city. In one of the entrances there is a large floral watch, and then you can take a variety of paths that allow you to walk peacefully through the park. Among other curiosities, you can find a monument dedicated to Sir George Gray (twice Governor of New Zealand, and character influential in European colonization), the source placed at the center of Albert Park and, more to the south, a beautiful kiosk (a small pavilion with open sides).
Leaving Albert Park to the south, and before crossing any street, you pass by the Auckland Art Gallery (Toi or Tāmaki), and close to the Auckland Central Library you can also find it. Continuing along the Wellesley Street East, and entering the Auckland CBD (central business district), turn left to go to one of the most emblematic squares in the city, the Aotea Square, where several events are often held there. From the same square you can access the Aotea Center (a theater) and the Auckland Town Hall (where meetings of the City Council are held), as well as being able to discover the monument dedicated to Sir Dove-Myer Robinson (or "Robbie"), the ex-mayor of Auckland, who has long served as such, or the monument dedicated to Lord Auckland (George Eden), count of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that gave name to the city and to others Well-known places, such as Mount Eden. Leaving Aotea Square to the south, it immediately hits the clear image of the Sky Tower, surely the best-known building in the city of Auckland for being the highest one. Following the road to the north, the image of viewing the Albert Street projection towards the sea, without any building opposed, is curious. Once the Wellesley Street West is back, and before reaching the beautiful Anglican church of St Matthew-in-the-City, you have to turn right onto the Federal Street to find, now, the imposing Sky Tower that , with a height of 328 meters, is not only the tallest building in Auckland, but also the tallest independent structure in the southern hemisphere, and the 25th highest tower in the world. It is, in fact, one of the most recognizable buildings around the world, given that New Zealand is the first great country to celebrate the entry of a new year, and that often appears on television images of fireworks in the sky of Auckland where, evidently, it stands out the figure of this impressive tower. Moving in the same direction, you pass by the Auckland District Court and end up at the beautiful St. Patrick's Cathedral, where you have to decide if you turn left or right. In this case, it is decided to turn right to go to Queen Street, one of the best known and busy streets in the city. Once you reach it, and as you travel in the direction of the sea, you will find a large number of fashion and gift shops until a large building is full of attention. This is the Britomart Transport Center, the large public transport center where the train station and the start or end of most of the bus lines converge. Just next to it, and beside the sea, there is the Auckland Ferry Terminal (also called Downtown Ferry Terminal), another elegant and imposing building that stands out beside the sea, which serves as a terminal for Shuttles that arrive or leave from Auckland, thus completing the offer of public transport. Going over the Quay Street in the west, and still enjoying the majesty of the Auckland Ferry Terminal, which seems isolated in the middle of so many buildings, continue straight ahead towards the Viaduct Harbor (or Viaduct Basin), located on Freemans Bay, which had It was a commercial port and now it has become an area with luxurious apartments, office spaces and restaurants. To advance on this point, you must use the Wynyard Crossing (or Te Wero Bridge), a 100-meter-long drawbridge that can only be pedestrianized and cyclisted, and that allows you to reach the Wynyard Quarter. After waiting for the bridge to be positioned horizontally, it has crossed and it has been decided to reach the most northerly area possible in this area, so that the path towards the Dredge Driving Wheels, the wheels of a dragon of beginnings of century XX that are conserved like monument, and that are located indeed in this North end. From this point you can see more clearly the extension of the Waitemata Harbor, the waters that open on both sides of the Auckland Harbor Bridge. Right from the Dredge Driving Wheels side, from the point called Tank Farm Viewpoint, where this route ends, this bridge can be clearly seen, the Auckland Harbor Bridge, which has eight lanes, is part of State Highway 1 and It is the longest bridge on the North Island.
It is a very simple route, which runs at all times through the city of Auckland, combining parks, roads and pedestrian areas. Although the city has many other points of interest, it is considered that the route allows you to observe some of the most important ones, including the Auckland Domain, Albert Park and Sky Tower. Although the route is not circular, it ends very close to the Britomart Transport Center, where, as explained, many buses depart from different lines that run almost anywhere in the city, including the starting point of the route Except for the movement of people on Queen Street and the CBD in general, the rest of the city is quite quiet and the route allows you to take a good stroll. After mixing the grass of the parks and the stone of the buildings, a good way to finish the route, and to end this indescribable adventure for this country, surrounded by such wonderful and virgin water as New Zealand, seen with the blue of the waves, especially when the light of the sky goes out and the wind wrinkles the dark skin of the sea.
