Itinerary description

Above China bar. A loop from the Cardiac gate. (not to be confused with Cardiac and cardiac bypass trails in Weimar institute). A distant view of the Knickerbocker waterfall. Part on the side of the road near cardiac gate or drive a little further down Maidu drive and park in the China Bar parking lot. (If you park in the china bar parking lot you do not necessarily need to walk on the road back to the gate. Instead you can follow the shirland canal trail until it meets up with cardiac hill trail.)

If you do park at the China bar parking lot, the state is now charging $10 for parking. There is free parking on the side of the road, however.

Where can I get a hiking map for this trail? It doesn't seem to be on the Auburn SRA website or in the American River Canyon Hikes book.

    BRT,

Try the map from Protect American River Canyons
    http://www.parc-auburn.org/parc_map.htm

Also the cardiac hill portion of this trail is part of the Pioneer express trail

Pioneer express trail is also part of American discovery trail. Perhaps this site would sell you a map that includes part of it

I have not seen the American discovery trail map. so I cannot guarantee that this map will give you what you want.

In the past few weeks, there has been some new controversy about cardiac hill. The top 100+ feet of the trail apparently is on private property. It is part of Pioneer express and is used by equestrians who start at the staging area below railhead park and ride down to Folsom lake's Rattlesnake bar (or further). For now the trail is open. Posted signs just say to stay on the trail and to respect the privacy of the owners.
