Itinerary description
Atsipádhes - Mount Kouroupa - Atsipádhes is a lot of climb up and down, but along a 4x4 drivable road that makes the hike relatively easy. Some parts are quite steep for a road, but all the steep parts are paved. There is absolutely no shade along the route, so do bring enough water, and leave early enough.
We hiked in sneakers / hiking sandals, so this is a hike you can do without your hiking boots.
The first marker is at the Atsipádhes village parking, the last point that is easily accessible with a regular two wheel drive rent a car. The road though the town is narrow and steep at places. If that scares you, then it's better to leave the car outside the tiny hamlet of Atsipádhes.
The top of this hike is amazing. You have wonderful views of the southern shore and some peeks of the northern one as well. There is a small chapel at the top and if it's as windy as it was when we were there, the chapel shields you from the wind and you can have your picnic outside the chapel. The wind was sufficient to blow your hat off and some of the gusts were strong enough to blow your glasses off your head, if you're not careful. There is an older chapel ruin next to the chapel and a mobile phone tower as well.
ps. Thank you Jeroen de Bever for the inspiration for this hike. URL to his site is in the links.

It is also possible to begin this climb from the village of Koxare where a signpost marks the starting point. From Koxare the walk is a little longer but it passes a ruined Turkish fort which it is worth a detour to explore.
Cool, thank you Peter. This is one of the little hikes I'd like to do again.
Belle randonnée... vues fabuleuses au sommet ! Merci à vous.
