CY: Asinou - Agios Theodoros Nature Trail + extension (Ágios Theódoros - Asínou)

The official trail is linear with easy to moderate difficulty, with fantastic views over Morfou bay and valley. At the end of the trail there is an old church of Panagia Asinou which dates back to XI-XII cent. Unfortunately the latter is usually closed and there is no clue anywhere around where to find the keeper of the key.
As well the trail partially goes along the river which is alive during cold season and you may see two old kilns along the way.

We made a loop part which was non-official following Hiking with Andrey route but in opposite direction. This extension is definitely not for the faint hearted - very sharp and long ascent along firebreakers mostly, very demanding in effort. In addition the trail was difficult to find at a couple of points. However the best views over whole Morfou bay and Nicosia can be found only in that part of the trail.

There is no parking at the trail start, only along the road. There are more parking places near the church at the other end of the trail.

TERRAIN: various roads - concrete, wide and narrow forest paths. Ascents and descents are moderate for the official trail. For non-official part - fire breakers and abandoned forest car roads mostly, some narrow forest paths as well. Very steep and rather long ascent.

SEASON: at least half of the official trail doesn’t have shade. The extension almost doesn’t have it, thus the trail is better for cold seasons, especially if you decide to follow the extension. However in cold season if you decide to take an extension, you will most likely have to cross a stream not far from the church when crossing a ditch, which was not easy to locate either.
If you decide to take the extension, be extra careful during the hunting season, as descent goes through hunting spots and hideouts.

SIGNS: for the official part there are enough arrows showing the way and plant signs, though most of them are quite old and fainted already. There are some resting places as well.

KIDS: the official trail is Ok for kids starting with 4-5 yo. The extension is better for much older ones.
