Itinerary description
The fort is estimated to be at least 800 years old with the Marathas, Portuguese and English all occupying it from time to time.
It's an ideal trek just after the first rains. There are exposed rock patches with small steps cut in, which will become slippery otherwise. There is a long ladder installed towards the top. It would have been fun climbing up the scree without it. Without it, the trek would have been at a medium minimum. Climbing should take you not more than 2 hours without breaks.
If you are driving, reaching is pretty easy, it's off NH8 to the left and Google maps has the trail to base village (Khodkona) marked as well. Look out for a big Indian Oil Petrol Pump, and about a kilometer after that is the turn-off.
