Itinerary description
Circular unofficial walk around Asgata village with visit to Kalavasos Dam and two mines out of three close to the dam. Nice views of surrounding hills, interesting formations and views to the mountains with Kionia fire lookout on top.
The way passes by military camps and if you are adventurous enough, you can wonder among abandoned barracks nearby one of the camps.
TERRAIN: ups and downs come in turns, all elevations are quite mild. The road is a combination of tarmac, dirt car roads (of red clay, white clay, limestone, etc), some wild paths.
SEASON: no shade, however it is possible to catch about 30% depending on the position of the sun. The dirt car roads may be eroded by streams caused by heavy rainfalls and become muddy. As well some parts of the roads near the dam in the lowlands are usually muddy too.
In cooler and rainy seasons pls check the level of water in the dam as the path I took along the dam may be flooded.
SIGNS: no signs, but the there are a couple of sudden benches along the way.
KIDS: Ok for kids of any age, just mind the distance and possibly of flooded path along the dam thus necessity to find another road.
