Itinerary description
This is an urban meander. Walking from the train station to the river and then back through the suburban streets mostly avoids repetition and busy roads. Along the river itself there is some backtracking as once you get past the second bridge mostly everything is on the eastern side as the western side is an old Defence complex.
I followed the trail until I felt like turning around, but you can go further for another few kilometres.
There is a wide variety of birdlife on the trail - waterbirds, parrots, swallows and finches to name a few. Also great views of the Melbourne city skyline.
I popped in at a nursery and had lunch at a cafe on this hike - the advantages of urban walks!
Enjoy.
