Itinerary description
An easy walk but long enough that you will feel you got some exercise. I did this with a group - if I was doing it on my own I'd take more side streets from Union Rd down to the river - walking along Maribyrnong Road has a bit too much traffic for my liking. Then there is is long and pleasant walk along the river on the Footscray side, with views of the city skyline, racecourse and a few little stockyard remnants until heading through the housing development up to Flemington.
You can either stop at Flemington and hop on a train at Newmarket Station or jump on the No.57 tram or you can complete the loop and head back to Ascot Vale Station, which adds an extra 2 km or so onto the walk length but goes along the train track passing lovely inner-suburban houses.
The walk doesn't take as long as recorded here - we were in a. group with one slow walker and also stopped at the Doutta Galla pub for dinner.
Enjoy!
