Ascent route to Lake Marian from the road that leads to Mildford Sound (before reaching the tunnel)
The falls are only 1km away, but it's worth the full tour to see the lake. From the waterfalls the road gets complicated, with lots of mud, roots and stones. There are also some landslides. In spite of everything, the route is very well marked. 10 km round trip.

I can only say that swim in the lake is a great reward after a quite steep way up. Great time during my NZ tour to celebrate my 70's. Just do it.
