The Greater Arteni Mountain is a volcanic cone which stands at 2,047 m. The mountain is located at the southwestern foot of Aragats about 3 km to the southeast of the village of Tatul, in Aragatsotn Province. The remains of Stone Age settlements have been discovered on Greater Arteni, and artefacts include tools made of obsidian, a glass-like volcanic stone from the Mesolithic and Neolithic periods. The landscape in this area is predominantly steppe.
