Itinerary description
If you are looking for a gentle stroll along well marked paths, then don’t try this route! The Dutch description is pretty accurate. The first part of the route up to the village is lovely. After that there is a less attractive section along the road up to IC 1, and for 20 metres or so along it, until you cross to pick up a trail. This is also very lovely and both times we have been along it there have been cattle and therefore cowbells. When you turn off this track, to begin with it is straightforward. But when you come to the river, which was almost dry at this point in late April, it then becomes difficult for most of the rest of the route. There is no path and although it is in places quite open, in others it is a question of picking your way through vegetation and with difficulty under foot. In places there are rocks which you have to scramble over, but the most difficult thing to negotiate are the barbed wire fences. We found a spot just after one of these where we could swim. At this point also a path of sorts began again though it often bifurcated confusingly. There may be other swimming spots here too. After passing under the main road, you go along the outside of a field of oats. Once you come the derelict house, it is easy again and you are almost back to the campsite. It is a very enjoyable route but somewhat of a challenge in places.
