Itinerary description
Arqayits mountain ( Արքայից լեռ ) is a peak in Tsaghkunyats mountain range ( Ծաղկունյաց լեռներ ), Armenia.
It has an altitude of 2687 m and situated near Tsaghkunyats lake
Tsaghkunyats range is very close to Yerevan that's why it's one of the most visited mountain areas in Armenia.
Some information about this trail:
--- The trail follows the blazed "flowering trail" on the way up and down, when we get to Tsaghkunyats lake, we turn off the trail and head to the mountain, then return and join the blazed trail that goes down.
--- This is a very good option if you want to see the mountain lake and hike nearby mountain in a day. You may head to Teghenis mountain as well, but it's quite challenging for a day hike.
--- You start the hike from Aghveran village ( Աղվերան ) and hike back to the same point making a loop there, so you can easily leave the car at the starting point.
--- Ater the lake, when we stray from the blazed trail, we head to the mountain following a geep track till ~ 2600 m and only the last 70 m we hike the steep part.
--- If you don't like steep descends and more for comfy hikes, I'll suggest going down the mountain the same way you hiked up, as the trail I have here has quite steep slopes till you join the tiny trail (mentioned in the map as a waypoint).
--- SEASON: Tsaghkunyats mountains' best season is May and June (flowers, greenery), October and November ( golden landscapes, comfy temperature) .
July is a green month, but hot, from August till October it's hot and dry here.
Winter period is very severe and snowy for this area, so I won't suggest coming here that season.
--- Near the lake you are going to meet shepherd dogs, they might bark and run to you but whenever I get there, they get calm and playful, never meet an angry dog, anyway, be aware and never go there with other dogs.
