Itinerary description
This walk is an extended version of this route: https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/around-avakas-gorge-via-peyia-forest-and-lara-beach-62448323
Starting from the Akamas Peninsula carpark below the Last Castle restaurant, this walk briefly follows the coast before heading inland and uphill along the edge of Avakas Gorge.
The first few miles are quite steep, but on good paths. There is a small church that's worth a visit, but you can bypass this if you prefer.
On nearing Kathikas, the route then heads down toward Lara beach before following the coast back to the starting point.
While quite long, and steep in sections, this hike follows good paths and includes some spectacular views.
There is no water, food, or shade on the route, so be prepared! However, there are a couple of small restaurants near the start/finish, which may or may not be open.
There are lots of goats, pigs, and even a few donkeys and cows on the route so keep dogs on a leash.
In the summer, watch out for buggy drivers, who don't always pay attention to hikers.
The route involved crossing two small rivers button summertime, these will be dry riverbeds. I did this walk after heavy rains and it was still doable with care.
A great walk - and well worth repeating.
