Itinerary description
A scenic hike in rough terrain, but nowhere difficult of dangerous.
On Hwy 95 you can see Horse hoof mountain at the start point as well as the saddle that is the easy way towards it.
Start the hike on top of the dike on an old road. Later on the terrain gets hilly but easy to hike in.
A bit before the saddle you meet a bike trail, follow it over the saddle.
We go around Horse hoof mountain on the right side. The washes are deeper and a bit more difficult to hike in.
The descend looks more difficult than it actually is. The wash narrows and widens. At a small fall, keep on going in the wash, it's a lot easier than it looks from afar.
Turn left and follow the GPS route. It looks a bit different than the topo map suggests.
We followed a couple of sheep trails. The wash is narrow and some harmless scrub may block your path.
The most annoying part is the hike up to the Horse hoof saddle, its gravel and sand a bit slippery.
