Itinerary description
A very scenic mountain hike.
Hike up the trail at the trail head sign.
A steady climb up to the saddle.
Next more level to the other side of the mountain and up again.
The trail is well maintained, a bit rocky and slightly slippery on the way down.
All in all a very nice hike for a warmer day.
The pictures
How to get here:
I 19 to Pena Blanca Lake exit 12.
Follow Ruby road for about 10 miles.
Turn left on Ruby road (forest road 39).
This is where the pavement ends, but a very good dirt road starts.
A permit is needed for the road. (fee required).
The trail head parking is on the left, close to mile 5.
It is well marked, but from the opposite side.
Suggestion:
The FR 39 is scenic, so drive it all the way to Arivaca.
I's a good dirt road (2012), some parts are slightly rough (washboard).
Expect a lot of friendly border patrol cars.
