Arctic Circle Trail Hiking | Lapland, Rovaniemi - FINLAND (4.5.2022)

It's absolutely one of my top hiking experiences so far. Truly amazing place.

TRANSPORTATION: I took the bus from Rovaniemi bus station at get off at Vikajärvi. Then walked back about 200 meters to the path where Vikaköngäs hut is. Trail starts here passing over the bridge.

HOW IT WAS : On the way there are a few huts, camping areas, fire places etc. During this hike, the whole forest was covered with snow but the weather was sunny. So it was an absolutely fantastic hike. I didn't have my boots despite of snow and I only had my hiking shoes so it was ok although the depth of the snow was more than 30-40 cm. The snow was melting but most of the snow was hard which made my hike easier.

HUTS & LEAN-TO-SHELTERS : First hut is Kaltio which is 1,1 km from the starting point. After that, you'll come to Vaattunkivaara. There is only table and sitting area which was basically for a picnic & resting place. Here you'll see the information board where you can see how much distance you covered and you will need to go the next point. There is also an observation tower here.

After walking a few kilometres, I stopped at Nittypirtti wilderness hut and camped it. Totally amazing place to be. I chopped some wood, made a fire and grilled some meat along with my coffee made from snow water.
Finally, I walked a lot with a certain pace all the way up to Lehtikumpu to catch my bus at 16:13 passing through Vaattunkiköngäs.

OVERALL, I definitely recommend this awesome trail to everyone. Alternatively, you can start from Vaattunkiköngäs all the way up to Vikajärvi if you want.
