Itinerary description
Typical single lane trail up the hill. trail with embedded boulders with loose rocks passing through gorse and low trees until you intersect the old stone aquaduct.
Follow this for a while before breaking off to intersect the rough road, which continues to the start.
Park by the building and follow the road up to the water tank
Waypoints
Turn right after the water tank
From park area walk up the roadway approx 400 meters until you see a small square concrete water tank on your right. Just a few metres further on from the water tank take the single lane track on the right and follow the path through the trees.
View of pathway
Follow single line trail through the trees keeping to the rough pathway. Typical large embedded boulders with scattered loose rocks and stone underfoot.
Open area
After approx 1.9 Kms from starting the single line trail opens onto larger open space, continue on to the next wooded area where you can see a typical concrete building screened by the trees, keep to the right when you see this The path breaks into two but both connect up a few metres further on.
Pass by wall to the left of you
Continue on past the stone wall and you will see the road to follow a little further on. Follow the road until you come to the gorge
Flooded today
Due to the rain after the last few days this gorge was full of raging water. Normally the route can be done by following the dry water bed. However in this case we continued following the water but on the rocks above it
over the walls keeping the water to your left
Keep going up, over a few rock walls
Mistake
We crossed over the river expecting to continue up on the left hand side of the river. However it was too overgrown and the river too high flowing to pursue that route. So we doubled back on ourselves and continued on the right hand side again
Intersection
Back on the right hand side, continue up the rocks. Watch out for the thin wire strung below head height keeping the fences up. Approx 200 metres further up and you will intersect the old rock aqua duct
View of path
Continue up. Fence and wall to your right and a black pipe help guide you on the right way. A little further and you will see the old aqueduct pipe system
go left and follow old stone pipework
Follow the stone pipe system to the bridge and over it.
over the aqua duct bridge
Once over the bridge a tree has overgrown the pipework. Make your way under it or go by the side of it and follow the stone pipework again. A little further on the pipe system disappears, but continue straight ahead and you will pick it up again.
keep going straight ahead
Continue on, the pipework has disappeared again. (worn away) Keep your eye out for the track that you need to follow a little further on to your left. You need to step up off the pathway you are following and continue up an old zigzag stone pathway
Go left and up
Climb up off the pathway and continue on old stone pathway. After a few turns of the rock pathway you will go on to open ground with no defined trail but continue more or less straight ahead and you will intersect the roadway. This road will take you all the way back to the start.
Roadway, go left
Go left on the road. Follow it for approx 400 metres to the eating point overlooking the valley.
Lunch Point
Stone picnic table. Lunched here. (today was freezing) Good views over the area on a good day. From here follow the road all the way back to your parked cars some 4.8 kms all down hill and finished.
