Itinerary description
Day 4/7 of slackpacking Georgia on the AT. Trip organized by Above the Clouds Hostel in Suches (highly recommended).
Got dropped off at Jarrard Gap and picked up at Hogpen Gap.
This section starts with a 5 km climb up Blood Mountain - long, but not too steep. The descent to Neel Gap is longer and steeper. The rest of the trail is pretty moderate, until the last climb, between km 17 and 18, which is pretty steep.
The trail has plenty of rocks and roots but it's well maintained and marked by the white AT blazes.
The best viewpoint is definitely a few minutes down from Blood Mountain shelter. Cowrock Mountain is very nice too.
The Mountain Crossings store has a great selection of gear, as well as souvenirs and snacks.
There were a couple of yellowjacket nests right on the trail, in the section past Neel Gap.
