Itinerary description
Day 3/7 of slackpacking Georgia on the AT. Trip organized by Above the Clouds Hostel in Suches (highly recommended).
Got dropped off at Coopers Gap and picked up at Jarrard Gap.
Started out descending to Justus Creek, after which there is a long, but mostly gradual climb to Preacher's Rock - with the exception of a short section just before it, which is pretty steep. After the viewpoint, there's about 3 km of steeper descent and then nothing too demanding until Jarrard Gap.
The trail on this section reasonably even for AT standards, even though there is still plenty of rocks and roots. The steep part just before Preacher's Rock has some big rocks and boulders that could get slippery when wet. The trail's well maintained and marked by the white AT blazes.
In addition to the great view from Preacher's Rock, there's also a nice view from Ramrock Mountain, around km 10.
My GPS signal was a bit off around Gooch Gap and just before km 20. Just follow the blazes, the trail is pretty obvious.
