Itinerary description
Day 1/7 of slackpacking Georgia on the AT. Trip organized by Above the Clouds Hostel in Suches (highly recommended).
Got dropped off at the Amicalola Falls Visitors' Center (under construction in October 2022) and picked up at Springer Mt parking lot.
The beginning of the approach trail to the top of Amicalola Falls consist of several hundred steps. After that, it's a narrow forrest trail, sometimes with rocks or tree roots, but well maintained. There is a lot of accumulated elevation gain, but nothing too steep or long.
The approach trail is marked with light blue blazes until Springer Mt., the official southern terminus of the AT. After the terminus, you follow the white AT blazes.
The best view is probably at Amicalola Falls - the rest of the trail is under dense tree coverage.
