Itinerary description
A circular walk beginning in Anópoli, visiting the very old village of Arádhena, taking an old little-used route up to Kroúsia, a small valley over 1200m up above Agios Ioánnis
The route is clearly marked with cairns from the beginning and with green and white paint from around halfway to Kroúsia. It crosses stony hillsides, pine forest, gullies and attractive moss covered woodlands
Kroúsia has 3 large stone build cisterns, one has a bucket and rope and the water is clear (I didn't need to drink any)
The route to Agios Ioánnis heads SE from the mitato at Kroúsia, following a scree filled ravine almost all the way to the village
Back to Anópoli, it's a road stomp, though you can cut a few corners here and there
(On any Cretan roads, it's worth walking along the uphill side, if you can safely do so. This shields you from the majority of pungent waste dumped over the edge of the other side)
