The trek to Annapurna Base Camp can be done in different ways and at different times. We preferred the slow approach (7 days of climbing and 2 days of descent). In the end it turned out to be much better than the alternative for three reasons:
1. proceed with a slow climb and gradual acclimatization
2. the landscapes in the first part are fantastic
3. the mountain is not a place to arrive but to experience
From Kathmandu you take the plane to Pokhara (45min). If you take a seat on the right window you will enjoy a fantastic view. The small prop plane stays UNDER the mountains and the approach to Pokhara is worth the trip alone.
In Pokhara you take a jeep or a minibus and arrive at Naya Pool where the trekking will start and permits etc. will be obtained.
The first stage is simple, just an approach, mostly on a road traveled by traditional buses and off-road vehicles.
You go up a little and you begin to recognize some plants, you come across villages and porters, the first suspension bridges, rice fields.
The peaks still remain in the background, the countryside is cultivated in steps, the sun shines
