As my 300th route uploaded to Wikiloc I gave myself a dream
Route from Bireṭhā̃ṭi̇̄ to Landruk via:
- Ulleri (24.8 km)
- Ghorepani (32.0 km)
- Poon Hill (33.9 km)
- Deurali Pass (38.0 km)
- Tadapani (45.8 km)
- Chhomrong (55.9 km)
- Dovan (68.5 km)
- Hinku Cave (74.5 km)
- Annapurna Base Camp (84.2 km)
- Himalayas (95.3 km)
- Bamboo (101.8 km)
- Sinuwa (106.2 km)
- New Bridge (115.2 km)
There are two typical routes to Annapurna, one which goes completely around surrounding it and which takes several days. One, lighter, which takes you to Annapurna Base Camp and back and which is called the Annapurna Sanctuary trip
This is precisely what is described here (and the individual daily stages are described on the dedicated pages).
The path is feasible for many and therefore can be approached judiciously.
As always in the mountains, and particularly in a less equipped country and at these altitudes, there are some mandatory constraints.
1. Experienced guides and porters, and in good company
2. in excellent health (at 4,000 even a cold complicates life a lot)
3. train
4. equipped (clothing, shoes, medicines, tools...)
That said, I found it less harsh than expected, as long as you take into account three key elements:
to. most of it is on steps (my companions counted 80,000...) and this involves additional fatigue and stress on the knees
b. the lodges are very useful and the essential services are there but you have to take into account being without hot showers for days, without heating, with basic toilets etc. It can add difficulty
c. reaching 4000m didn't cause any problems, thanks to the acclimatization days. But the night at ABC was very hard, breathless and full of nightmares. The advice is to sleep with your head held high, if possible, even sit up, but it is not easy to follow.
Taking all this into account, it is a fantastic experience, you pass through real villages, rhododendron forests, you come across waterfalls and glaciers and, above all, you arrive surrounded by a crown of incredible mountains and photos of sunrises, sunsets, even at night, they seem to be made up but instead the colors are all the same (actually, even better in person!).
So, yes, it's definitely worth it
