Itinerary description
Practically all downhill and we were lucky enough to not cross paths with any motorised vehicles. It’s a dirt road most the way and other than at Muktinath, no road and not many people. Most people take a Jeep from Muktinath already to Jomsom, continue in the mountains via Lupra or like us, visit Lower Mustang via the non-bitumen side of the valley.
Did a small visit of Muktinath and its temple before crossing over the valley.
Typical Lower Mustang scenery - arid with random patches of greenery where the villages are. You feel like you are alone and you don’t know when the next village will pop up - it’s amazing!!!
The hardest part of this day is within the last 500m into Kagbeni - a steep rocky descent which can be avoided if you continue to follow the road instead of the red and white markings.
It’s a long but pretty easy day. So only classed it as a medium trek.
N.B. Doing this with my 69 year young mother who is fit but not altitude nor long trek fit. Your times should be quicker. This time did include a lunch break and a very long shower on arrival (forgot to switch it off. Oops)
