Itinerary description

Day 7. Wexford & Wicklow Marilyns - Tara Hill 253m, Wexford, Croghan Mountain 606m, Wicklow & Annagh Hill 454m, Wexford.

On many of the peak bagging/outdoor websites I perused for this trip I noted there were very few route descriptions regarding ascents of the lesser known Irish Marilyns. This also applied to the availability of gpx files. I will therefore add relevant information and files that hopefully will provide assistance to future hikers/peakbaggers.

Annagh Hill 454m, Wexford, Eire (Marilyn).A lumpy little hill on the Northern Wexford border with Wicklow and just South of its more prominent Northern neighbour Croghan Mountain at 606m.Parking is at the start point opposite to the Gap pub in a substantial car park. The route heads around to the NW on the road and then South and uphill on easy forest tracks. It then gets really steep on some sections as you walk uphill on wide mud tracks scooped out of the hillside by a JCB. Every so often there are big boulders blocking your path but there is always a foot way through. It is not a long hike and once on the top track you will soon come to the summit marked by a boulder cairn built into the wall. If you go on the ‘field’ side there is a little shrine built into it too. Nice views are to be had from the top, once you’ve had enough go back down.

Parking: Big car park at the start point.
Route: A bit of road, forest track, some really steep sections of track but all in all a decent walk with good views.
Statistics: 5.60m with 270m of height gain done in 1hr 22min.
Maps: Digital Outdoor active Harveys Super Walker.
